What happens if you try to vape on a plane?
Can you vape on a plane? The
answer to the question is a strict “no”. Vaping on a plane is strictly
prohibited, just like smoking. And if you try to sneak in a puff during a
flight, you will get yourself in quite a bit of trouble.
However, this has not deterred
some determined vapers from trying to vape mid-flight.
Quite recently, a passenger
on a Spirit Airlines flight set off a smoke alarm in the plane’s bathroom while
vaping. The flight number 985 was going from Detroit to New Orleans when one of
the passengers first tried to smoke an e-cigarette in his seat and blowing the
vapor into a plastic bag. The same passenger went on to attempt vaping in the
plane's bathroom, which set off the smoke detectors. When informed that
vaping on a plane was illegal, the passenger replied he had no idea such rules
were in place. The airline did not consider this a valid enough reason and
struck the man with a lifetime ban for flying with Spirit Airlines.
Even some celebrities seem
unaware of vaping on a flight regulations. Allegedly, Grant Gustin (the star of
CW's The Flash) tried to vape on a Compass airline flight from Los Angeles to
Vancouver – and, as you may have guessed, it did not go too well. A smoke alarm
got triggered in the plane's bathroom and the flight attendants took action. It
has not yet been confirmed whether this violation has resulted in a flight ban
for the star.
The rules on smoking and
vaping on planes are very clear: you are not allowed to do either: even if you
are traveling with a super compact vaping gadget and blow vapor into a bag.
Even if you are a skilled stealth vapor, the risks of showing off your prowess are just too high.
Note that some airlines reserve the right to not let you onboard if "you
have smoked, or attempted to smoke, on a previous flight".
