How to get more nicotine from your vape?

While vaping is probably the best anti-smoking aid for replicating the cigarette experience, the two processes are still inherently different. However, when you smoke a cigarette, nicotine is absorbed in the lungs. But, according to the research by the Royal College of Physicians, when you vape, the nicotine is absorbed in your throat and airway. It also appears to be absorbed more slowly, which may be one of the reasons why vaping is less addictive than traditional cigarettes. This could also be one of the reasons why some vapers (typically, ex heavy smokers) require higher strength nicotine e-liquids. While nic salt e-liquids can go as high up in nicotine concentrations as 50mg/ml, a lot of countries set limits on how much nicotine a vape juice can contain. For instance, in the UK, you won't be able to purchase e-liquids with concentrations of over 20mg/ml.

But there is more than one way to get more nicotine out of your vape juice.

How to tweak your vape for more nicotine?

There are three main factors that determine how much nicotine you are receiving from your vaping session. These include:

  • Your e-liquid's nicotine strength
  • The vaping gadget's power capacities and settings
  • Coil resistance

So, even if you don’t want to get e-liquids with higher nicotine concentrations, there are at least two more things you can work with.

Basically, in order to get more nicotine out your vape juice, you can do two things:

  • Turn up the power on your device
  • And decrease coil resistance

Turning up the power on your device to get more nicotine

Some vaping gadgets come with variable voltage or wattage — and this is the type of device you will need to exercise this option. While some large box mods that come with external batteries may make this process a bit tricky, hybrid mods like iQ One or standard vape pens also often have this feature and increasing the power on your device would be a matter of pressing a button.

In order to increase the power on your vape, you need to follow the instructions for doing so for your specific device. In the manual for your vaping kit, you should be able to find the best power range to use with your coil — alternatively, you can consult the device manufacturer or your local vape shop.

Decreasing coil resistance to get more nicotine out of your vape

The coil in your tank is responsible for heating up and vaporizing the e-liquid. To generate more vapor (and more nicotine), you will need to lower the coil’s resistance (the amount of opposition to the regular flow of electricity in a circuit measured in ohms).

The coils that have the resistance under one ohm, are the ones producing the most vapor and most nicotine. Vapers call them sub-ohm coils and the devices that use them are called sub-ohm devices.

High power + lower resistance

Power and resistance go together. If you use your vape with high power settings, you need to reduce coil resistance. Otherwise, you are risking burning out your coil. On the other hand, if you reduce the resistance of your coil without turning up the power of your vape, you will get very little vapor.

Thus, high power settings go best with lower coil resistance.

If you are using a box bod that allows for airflow control, you may want to increase the airflow on your kit — this lets your vape cool down.

And there you have it — if you don't want to get e-liquid with higher nicotine content, you can tweak the settings on your mod to get more of a kick.
