Are there any rules for vaping indoors?

Even though we feel like we’ve been talking about vaping forever, it’s still relatively new — especially when it comes to the dos and don’ts. Even countries seem to be on very different pages when it comes to vaping regulations — and things get even less clear with the individual vapers.

While some countries do have general guidelines when it comes to importing vaping gear and e-liquids onto their territory, there seem to be no comprehensive guidelines for establishments like bars and cafes to regulate vaping. Thus, in a lot of countries, clubs, restaurants, offices and even airports and other public spaces are given the freedom to decide their own vaping policies, with many choosing to treat e-cigarettes the same way they treat traditional tobacco products: that is, banning their use indoors entirely.

With that, while we're used to seeing “no smoking” signs when we walk into hotel lobbies, restaurants or cafes very few vapers have actually encountered a “no vaping” sign. And so, many are left wondering if they're actually breaking the law when they are vaping in a hotel room, coffee shop or even in their own home.

So is vaping indoors illegal?

The short answer to that would be no. Unless the owner of the establishment has clearly specified that they do not allow vaping, you should be able to vape trouble-free. Naturally, if you don’t know the vaping policy of this specific establishment, you should always ask the staff if vaping is okay before taking out your vape gear.

The problem here is that for many establishments it’s technically easier to pile up vaping together with smoking rather than dive into how the two differ. Thus, when asking if you can vape in a cafe or bar, you may be met with a brisk “no”.

Some vapers may often find it difficult to even answer if they want to sit or stay in a smoking or non-smoking zone. And some prefer to say that they are smokers so they can simply vape in peace. This pretty much defines the purpose of leaving cigarettes and cigarette smoke behind was what drove a lot of people to vape in the first place.

How do you feel about vaping indoors? Are there any clear regulations in your city for vapers?
