Are pods systems the future of vaping?
There was a time in the e-cigarette world
where vaping devices seemed to get bigger and bigger. Cigalikes turned into
vape pens and continued the transition all the way to box mods. And as the
batteries on the box mods kept getting bigger and bigger, so did the devices
themselves. Bigger mods let you vape longer without recharging, blow bigger
clouds and more.
But ever since the first pod systems hit the
market, things have not been quite the same. Portable, easy-to-use and
satisfying, they are basically the modern version of a cig-a-like — but much
closer to a vox mod in what they can offer.
What is a pod system?
As the name itself makes it clear, a pod
system is a vaping device that uses special cartridges or “pods” — and not
standard tanks or atomizers. With that, what they deliver in terms of
performance is very similar: they let your turn e-liquid into a vapor that you
can inhale through a mouthpiece. Pod systems are typically much smaller than
box mods: they also come with smaller batteries (around 300mAh) and hold less
e-liquid (most pods are 1ml or 2 ml). You don’t have to refill your e-liquid
with a pod system: you simply take out the old pod and put in a new one.
Naturally, not all paid systems are made equal.
The JUUL (by Pax Vapor) is as “classic” as pod systems get: it’s rectangular,
lightweight and can easily pass for a USB stick. But that’s, by far, not the
only “look” available. Some pod systems look more like box mods (like the
Aspire Gusto Mini) or come in a teardrop shape (like the Suorin Drop) or even
in the shape of an American football (like the VOOPOO VFL). Some pod systems
come with zero controls and are draw-activated and others have push or touch
buttons.
What is the difference between an open pod
system and a closed pod system?
A closed pod is the one that comes pre-filled
with e-liquid. Once it’s over, you just throw it away.
An open pod, on the other hand, is refillable,
just like a tank in a box mod.
This allows for more flexibility when using
pod systems but there are still some limitations you will face: most pod
systems won’t be able to cope with juices with high VG (vegetable glycerin)
concentrations).
So, what are the best things about pod systems
for vapers?
There are several key elements that are making
pod systems increasingly popular in the vaping community.
High nicotine options. As a lot of pod systems
are specifically designed for vaping nic salts, this lets vapers use higher
nicotine concentrations while avoiding the harsh throat hit.
Compact. Pod systems are as compact as vaping
devices get and most of them can easily fit into your palm and be carried in
your pocket.
Simple. Pod systems are very easy to use — and
this is something new vapers truly appreciate. You don’t need to tweak with
settings and assemble or re-assemble your device — you simply pick it up and
inhale.
Affordable. The cost of pod systems varied
from brand to brand, but most of them are cheaper than standard bigger mods.
And this makes the savings you get from switching from smoking to vaping even
bigger.
Satisfying. Don’t let the small size fool you.
Vaping with a pod system can be just as satisfying as vaping with a bigger mod
— especially if you are using high nicotine concentrations.
Discreet. While large clouds are loads of fun,
they are not for everyone. If you don’t like extra attention and prefer to keep
your vaping to yourself, getting a pod system would be the optimum choice.

you have a favorite? Do you think they pod systems are the future of vaping?
